THE O2 NATURE RESERVE
The foundation protects 500 acres of lowland tropical rainforest on the eastern shores of the Golfo Dulce in the Osa area of southern Costa Rica. Like most of the Osa region, the reserve is home to an extraordinary level of flora and fauna diversity. Most importantly, it is located in the center of a wildlife migration route connecting the Piedras Blancas and Corcovado National Parks. By protecting the land in the reserve, O2 has augmented the amount of private land currently under protection and provides a buffer zone at the edge of Piedras Blancas National Park.
The O2 reserve contains a remarkable variety of habitats including secondary and primary rainforest, mangrove forests, and river estuaries. The O2 reserve serves as a sanctuary to threatened and endangered species such as the jaguar, the mangrove hummingbird, the Central American squirrel monkey, and the Gulfo Dulce poison dart frog.
