Welcome to the O2 For Life website.
The O2 For Life Rainforest Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit
organization dedicated to the conservation and protection of tropical
nature. Our Foundation protects over 500 acres of land located
in the Osa region of Costa Rica, one of the most biodiverse areas
of the world.
The Mission of the O2 For Life Rainforest Foundation is:
- to protect the tropical rainforest in our nature reserve in
Costa Rica
- to promote conservation awareness and the study of tropical
nature among young people through "hands-on" field
education at our reserve
The O2 For Life Reserve
"The diversity of ecological systems found in the
Osa is not exceeded by any area of comparable size on earth."
- Dr. Larry Gilbert, University of Texas
The reserve is located on the shores of the Golfo Dulce in the
Osa region of southwest Costa Rica , one of the most biodiverse
areas of the world. Ranging in elevation from sea level to 600
feet , the reserve’s steep hillsides and valleys are covered
with lush lowland tropical rainforest. It includes over 1.5 miles
of gulf frontage peppered with pebble beaches and thick clusters
of mangrove habitat.
The south side of the property reaches the Esquinas river estuary,
an ecosystem teeming with bird and marine life. Our
neighbor to the south is the Piedras Blancas National Park. Across
the gulf are the majestic heights of Corcovado National Park.
Our buildings are nestled in a clearing near the beach. From there,
visitors can hike on trails and in shallow river beds into the
depth of the reserve’s pristine forest. At dawn and in late
afternoon the air resonates with the roars of howler monkeys and
the calls of toucans. After darkness the wondrous cacophony of exotic
frogs
and insects fills the night.
